I’ve been living aboard for a couple of years now, and while the Bay Area isn’t the easiest place to find space, it’s not impossible. A few marinas are open to long-term liveaboards but manage it very tightly, mostly to stay in compliance with city ordinances or environmental rules. I had to go through a pretty formal application process—references, boat inspection, proof of insurance—and even then it took me around four months to get a spot.

I had a similar search a while back, and I ended up checking out clear lake marina. It’s got a really relaxed atmosphere, and the staff are pretty helpful if you’re trying to get settled as a liveaboard. The docks are well-kept, overall this is good dry stack with repair services of good quality
